TACOMA – No Angie Bjorklund, no problem for the University Titans. At least in their 60-22 rout of Bothell in a 4A girls' quarterfinal at the Tacoma Dome on Thursday.
With the win, the Titans earned a rematch with Prairie, which knocked them out in the semifinals last season. University will take a 25-2 record into the showdown. Bothell dropped to 16-9 with the loss.
The Cougars scored six points in the second half against a Titans' defense that rarely featured Bjorklund, the Greater Spokane League's Most Valuable Player.
The 6-foot guard was saddled with two quick fouls early and four fouls in the third quarter. She played just 16 minutes and finished with 14 points.
In her place fellow senior Dara Zack stepped up, scoring 14 points – including a 3-pointer from 25 feet at the buzzer to give U-Hi a 32-16 halftime advantage – and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds.
Riki Schiermeister also displayed a hot hand, finishing with 11 points.
Whitney Anderson led Bothell with 13 points.
The Titans will meet Prairie at 8:30 on Friday. The Falcons are 23-3, with their only in-state loss coming to Roosevelt.
