Boys basketball: Highlanders hang on

Junior Zack Humphrey scored eight of his game-high 29 points in overtime as Shadle Park beat Mead 66-59 Friday to join the Panthers in second place in the Greater Spokane League.

Anthony Brown added 21 points for the Highlanders (7-2), who converted 8 of 10 free throws in the overtime period.

Brendan Ingebritsen scored 15 points to lead Mead (7-2).

Elsewhere in the GSL, Jared Karstetter scored a game-high 21 points and DeAngelo Casto chipped in 18 points and 12 rebounds as Ferris (9-0) topped visiting Gonzaga Prep 65-57. Shawn Stockton added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Saxons. Beau Azadganian scored 17 points and Travis Long added 14 to lead Gonzaga Prep (5-3). … Ryan Cornell scored 15 points and Andrew Pirttima and Trevor Wakem added 10 apiece as University beat host East Valley 71-58. Ryan Dixon added nine points for the Titans (3-7). Emerson Fulton scored a game-high 25 points to lead East Valley (1-8). … Skylar Kliewer had 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocks, leading Lewis and Clark (3-6) to a 58-51 win over visiting Rogers. GSL scoring leader Scotty Livengood was held to 13 points for Rogers (3-6). … Kyle Redmon and Ryan Selland scored 14 points each, leading Mt. Spokane (5-3) to a 47-39 comeback win at North Central. Javier Grigsby and Cody Hauenstein scored 10 points apiece to lead NC (2-7).

Non-league

Micah Smith scored 13 points and Andrew Scott added 12 as Priest River edged host Deer Park 59-53. The Spartans (7-3) shot 9 of 18 from 3-point range to erase an eight-point, first-quarter deficit. Kevin McNeil led all scorers with 22 points for the Stags (2-4). … At Spirit Lake, Riverside outscored host Timberlake (3-5) 19-3 in the first quarter and beat the Tigers 50-25. Josh Nyberg scored 12 points and Cody Stumph added 10 to lead the Rams (3-4). … Henry Butler scored 25 points and Miles Deife added 18 as St. George's topped host Valley Christian (3-6) 72-66. Matt Vaughn added 13 points for the Dragons (6-4). Jeff Pope led Valley Christian with 21 points. … Derek Gianukakis scored 33 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists as Republic beat visiting Omak 92-61. Cody Groth added 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Tigers (9-1). … Jared Ayers-Stamper scored 19 points as LaCrosse-Washtucna (4-5) beat Dayton 55-29 in LaCrosse.

•Christian Casto scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, guiding Freeman to a 51-43 win over Liberty (8-1) in the championship game of the Freeman tournament. Marc Soelberg added 12 points for the Scotties (6-3).

•Nate Bailey scored 16 points and Drew English added 14 points and nine rebounds as Rosalia beat St. Maries 61-49 at the Rosalia tournament. Rosalia (4-3) will play Genessee today at 6 p.m. for the championship. St. Maries (2-4) and the Colfax JV will play at 3 p.m. in the consolation game.

•Jarod Gunning scored 18 points and Kyle Nelson chipped in 16 points, eight rebounds and five steals as Davenport (3-4) slid past Colton 53-50 at the Davenport tournament. Ryan Sparkman tallied 21 points to lead the Wildcats (2-5). … Also at the tournament, Columbia (Hunters) (1-7) topped Soap Lake 56-34.

•Ronald Salas scored 22 points and Ed Wolfe added 14 points and seven rebounds as Lake Roosevelt routed Northport (2-6) 86-17 at the Lake Roosevelt tournament in Coulee Dam. … Griffon Jones scored 18 points, guiding Cheney to a 47-40 win over Lapwai, Idaho. Mike Sprenger added 11 points for the Blackhawks (2-3), who will meet Lake Roosevelt for the championship today at 7:30 p.m.

•Ryan Schulz scored 20 points and Chance Ackerman added 19 as Reardan (6-3) topped St. John-Endicott (3-4) 76-59 at the Reardan tournament. … Ryan Ross scored 14 points as Chewelah beat Wellpinit (4-4) 57-49. The Cougars (5-3) will meet Reardan today at 7:30 p.m. for the championship.

•David Ramacus scored 26 points, but it wasn't enough as Lakeridge of Oregon beat Medical Lake 72-58 at the Summit High tournament in Bend, Ore. Colton Curtis and Gardner Torrence added nine points apiece for the Cardinals (3-3), who finished in fifth place.

•Zach Sydouts made a jumper as time expired to give Zillah a 53-52 win over Pullman at the SunDome Shootout in Yakima. J.T. Levensellar scored 22 points to lead the Greyhounds (2-4). … Also at the tournament, Colfax (8-0) topped White Swan 60-44.
