Meet University High School Teacher, Mrs. Beckie Byers.

We are proud to feature our Language Arts Teacher, and Assistant Girls Golf Coach, Mrs. Beckie Byers.

Q: Where were you born and raised?
A: I was born in Spokane, and raised on a small ranch with horses, chickens, etc.

Q: Where did you go to college and get your teaching degree?
A: I went to EWU (Eastern Washington University), where I got my teachers degree and then post graduate at Whitworth College.

Q: What was your favorite subjects in school?
A: English, Biology, art, and PE.

Q: Did you play in any sports in high school? College?
A: I loved softball, and played through the 8th grade. Skiing was my favorite sport. I began skiing at age 12. I ski raced a bit, and was ski instructor, then on the ski patrol in college at Mt. Spokane.

Q: When did you realize that you wanted to coach?
A: When I moved to U-High I enjoyed being a volunteer coach during the track and field season with the pole vaulters for 3 seasons.

Q: Where was your first teaching job?
A: I began teaching at Opportunity Elementary in the fall of 1977, taught there for 8 years, and then moved to Chester Elementary for 17 years.

Q: How long have you been at University High School?
A: This is my fifth year at University High School. I came to U-High when the new U-High campus opened.

Q: What do you do for hobbies?
A: I like to: Hike, garden, ski, camp, work out, golf, attend WSU Cougar football games and track and field meets.

Q: If you were not at U High teaching and coaching what would you like to be doing?
A: Exploring places around the world, and meeting people from all over the world. It would be cool to golf and ski all over the world!

1. What is your favorite food?
A: Cougar Cheese!

A: V for Vandeta, Failure to Launch


3. What is your favorite band/artist?
A: John Mayer, Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen


4. Tell us about your family:
A: I have a Husband named John of 29 1/2 years.
A daughter named Annie, U-High grad in 1998, WSU grad in 2002, and currently working on her masters at GU.
A son Tyson, U-High grad in 2002, a senior at WSU, and currently on the Track and Field Team as a pole faulter.
My pets are Tanner a 3 year old yellow lab dog, and Tug a 13 year old chocolate lab dog.
